Hello Guys

I'm presenting to you my latest work.

The model is an old piece by Pegaso Models in 54mm scale.
This piece was sculpted by Andrea Jula and the boxart (image below) was painted by Danilo Cartacci

Here the link where you can find it:
http://www.pegasomodels.it/productdetails_it.asp?id=108

For painting, I start with a acrylic base sprayed with airbrush, I usually use 3 layers of color.
The first base is matt black with a tip of military green.
For the second layer I use an average flesh tone, as the main color use an Allegro's color (showed on image below) to which I add a touch of khaki.
The final step is a slight veiling of Maimeri white to highlight the maximum light points.

For this piece I chose to use a particular technique, using Pelikan inks to color and to saturate the various parts and then to rise light and shade I use acrylic paints and pigments.

I chose to use warm colors to give you an idea of the gladiator exposed to the arena sun, the sand was painted with a pigment "terra ombra di cipro naturale" by adding the lights with a color "antique ivory" acrylic and shadows with an "sepia" ink.

Last note, for the shield I chose a sketch of typical secutor sign, the scorpion.

I hope that the model you like, here are the pictures...

I put also the link on Cmon if you want support us, voting and commenting it. Secutor on CMON

Event: Un mondo in miniatura 2013 - The night before..

Hello Guys ..

I'm writing from the Fabio "Raysorg" Cornaz's house at Verrayes in Val d'Aosta, I have to say that without him it would not be possible to join this event.

For now what you'll need to know about him is that in his spare time he enjoys sculpting something bizarre and psychedelic, fruit of his ideas.
In the near future, for sure we will have the chance to do an interview with this "non più giovine" sculpturer by Val d'Aosta.

So, back to us..
As our good habit before a contest, we spent a sleepless night to work, chat and drink homemade brandy, that we common call "Grappine" (I think it's a typical homemade drinks by Valle d'Aosta guys)

Time on the pic speaks for itself.

And while Ray was standing in front of the lamp in the company of his demons..

I was sitting at the table of the kitchen in company of mine ones..

And finally ready for departing to Faenza for "a world in miniature."
Here there are the pieces that we will take with us, my pieces:

And pieces sculpted by Ray.

See Ya in the next post, with updating about the contest.
Stay tuned!!

Hello Painters!
Today I will talk about my latest work.
I painted this miniature for the winter online contest by Smart Max: Brrr... it's Smart Max's Winter Painting Contest!

The sculpture of this piece is great, the printing resin doesn't show any faults and the mounting operation was fast.
Usually when I face a new piece as a first step I think how to set the ambience and in this case I thought that best setting was a "battlefield" even if foregone.. I wanted the scene to be easy to understand
So I added on the back a can of fuel with bullet holes and a helmet on the ground to make the scene more dramatic.
Generally for painting, I used warm colors on almost all surface of the model, I only included cold colour glazes in the shadows to make them deeper and to increase the contrast.
The most fun parts to be painted are definitely the face and the lower part of the body
For the jacket I chose a army green tone not too bright just because I didn't want to shift attention by the face.
For the pants I chose a neutral tone and I worked a lot on volumes and contrasts to emphasize the really good sculpture.
Finally I used a bright red for the hair to attract attention to the head as much as possible!
For the ambience I used a variety of pigments and oils to make real the ground, this also allows me to work on the contrast Glossy/Matt of surfaces.
I hope you enjoy the piece!
Thank you!

WorkYard by Trevis 06-03

And after a long commission of 35 points Army by Hordes..
tonight my work bench looks like this

A messy as usual.
The Dwarf bust is still on open water, maybe worse..but at least he is smiling

and with two new projects, a commission and "wild wild west" style work

I finally receive in my hands the Mid-Nor Demon Tower by Rackham.
I already set ,with a little saw, the slope of the 5x5 cm plint and I create a small ravine.
Before to primer it I have to add others details with milliput on the ground and a bit of grass.
in theory I'm not far to take brushes, but knowing me, you never know.

As for the job in style wild wild west, I could not resist the charm of Willie the Demolitionist of Malifaux series by Wird Miniature.
A plastic kit by 3D prototyping, probably due to the new decrees for the toy regulation.
By the first check the model is really same alike the 3D digital master.
There are not many details about the character, but the wheelbarrow full of explosives and extremely dynamic position of Willie made me fall in love at first sight and I thought immediately to FarWest mine, T.N.T and KABOOOM!

I already had few bits to add at the scene like barrels and bottles, but I enjoyed with the dremmel and toothpicks to prepare the mine lamps and the shovel in scale..the pickaxe that you see on the pic is only a failed test.

In the meantime, I show you one of the works finally finished:
Bishop of Ahkanar

and below here the link to go to vote and comment on CMON (thanks in advance)
BISHOP OF AHKANAR on CMON

and with that is all for this night, see ya at the next post!
Stai tuned.

Review: "Miniature Painting" with Jeremie Bonamant Teboul Vol. 2

Hello fellow readers
today I will talk you about the latest DVD by Jeremie Bonamant Teboul.
"Miniature Painting" with Jeremie Bonamant Teboul
Volume 2: Wet blending and freehand

I bought this on my trip to Lugdunum 2013 and tried to watch everything whenever I had 20 minutes free.
For those who does not already know what wet blending is, let me briefly explain: you mix two or more colors directly on the miniatures blending the two with your brush while they are still wet so that theoretically you can make a perfect blend in a short time.

Technical infos: around 240 minutes (4 hours),
Format: Multizone (PAL, SECAM)
Languages: French (voice of Jeremie Bonamant), English (other)
Subtitles: French, Italian, Spanish, English, German
The video quality is good but not HD quality. I watched my copy on a 21" screen and while the colors were right (I saw the originals miniatures) the definition was not exceptional. So I tried to watch it on my laptop (15") and it was allright.
Remember, we are talking about HD quality versus normal.

Contents and Review
The DVD is the second in a series of DVD's about painting (maybe more DVD in the future?) called Miniature Painting.
This one focuses on Wet blending and has a chapter for freehand.
The dvd is divided in:
1- Introduction (5'13'')
2- Miniatures and Materials (1'27'')
3- Minotaur (2h15')
4- Rhymaiss (34'08'')
5- Athena (55'50'')
6- Bonus (3'58'')

Tha introduction is Bonamant that makes a few presentations and explains his ideas about the DVD.

The second is the list of the necessary supplies to apply the technique to your pieces.

The real meat is in chapter 3 to 5.

The Minotaur chapter is the main event, it is the main piece used for explaining the technique and the philosophy behind it. It's very long and well articulated in many steps.
Beware that the order presented is the same of the painting so you will not see things already painted while doing something else (for example a painted face while the trousers are still unpainted). This way of working can be difficult to follow if you are not prepared and can cause a few problems if your painting is schematic and rigid (I had a few problems following the dynamic since I am very strict and rigid in my works) since Jeremie's method can be described as "free as you wish".
The chapter is, thank God, divided in subchapter so that you can break the view and cogitate every phase.
Ah, yes, the painting covers the axe and the shield too.
Some of you may dislike the result (eh?!) or the colours chosen but it's just to show you the technique.

The chapter of Rhymaiss is incredible if you are interested in painting wet clothes (preferably on girls) because of water or other substances. One note of demerit is that the piece is not completed on the DVD so you have to do it yourseld. Beware of the mess you can create using this technique.

The Athena Chapter is about "quick" freehand on shields (obviously It can be adapted on every surface) but still realizing catchy and pleasant decorations that can really make stand up your piece.

The Bonus is about a guy, maybe too crazy (I'd never have the courage or more precisely, I would enjoy the view instead of painting since you can fall down and die....;) )

For those of you who doesn't speak English or French, or those who prefers reading while listening, the DVD offers you 5 different languages to choose from.
The subtitles are quite good, with few errors. The timing is almost always right and they have a good dimension. One problem is the colour of the subtitles. Since they are white sometimes they go over light parts of the video and you stop reading.
Apart from that the translations ( I am sure about the Italian, French and English version) are very well done. They are clear, intellegible and only in a few instances there could have been a terminology problem.
If any of you that speak and read german and spanish can comment, I'd really like to know how are these translations.

I would also like to point out a thing I have already heard people talking about on the Internet and in person: the references throught this video of the previous DVD.
You who are going to buy this DVD are NOT required to buy the previous volume. Obviously few of the fundamentals used in this one are required and explained in the first one but the truth is this work could be a stand alone.
Infact I believe that this video is not intended for the newbies or the GWkiddie. You have to know how to handle a brush, you have to know a few terminology and you must have the desire of improving.
Yes, you buy this kind of products if you want to improve your painting and not to learn how to paint 4,000pt army in one week.
Yes, sure, you can use this technique for painting armies in a fast way ( I myself used this to quickly paint some units) but the main reason I bought this DVD was the idea of improving my way of painting big surfaces in a different way.
So, don't fret of things whenever Jeremie refers to the other DVD. You can easily deduce them for yourself.

I recommend buying this DVD. You can find it on Figone.
Here u are the teaser directly by Figone website:

I can say that it's a nice deal and a good addition to your references, manuals, books, dvds...

Good viewing!
