Pinocchio "To tell a story" ..homage to Carlo Collodi

Ciao Guys

After the Easter Break, I want to show u a work that Amon brought for the first time in the last Edition of MSS.
Let's read something about it directly by the mad author!

"My idea was:
Pinocchio is one of my absolute favorite fairy tales!
My question was:
How could I to be able to represent it in 3d, especially in a new way?"

This was a challenge that I set myself at the beginning of the new project.

I wanted to represent something classic in a way never seen before.
So I decided to create a route with stages inspired by the most famous board games like snakes and ladders.
Pinocchio begins his adventure in front of him was a path that led him to meet the various characters until the end of the story.

I hope that u like it!

Thanks Mumi, Marco Divaz and Sergeant Black Art for the picture.

If you want to vote it or comment it, you found it on CMON and on Putty&Paint.

See you soon with the article about the StepByStep. Ciao!

Turcopole Memorial Bust Monreale 2013

Ciao Guys!
Today I want to show you my latest work.

Turcopole Memorial Bust Monreale 2013

I managed to get this bust participating (unfortunately for me not to live) to the beautiful exhibition of Monreale 2013, for the occasion the club gifted this subject to all entrants.

Knowing that the bust was sculpted by the legendary Mariano Numitone I immediately took care to pick up my copy to paint it!

Before talking about the painting, I would like to mention the sculpture.
In the world of modeling, the small-scale busts are often underestimated busts because usually modeller prefers to paint an entire subject or a bust on a large scale to have more impact in exhibitions and competitions.
Actually a simple subject like this can go unnoticed while for the moments of I find it is very relaxing! It allows you in really few time to get it ready to paint without spend hours to create the ambience, put pins and plaster.
In essence this bust, thanks to the wonderful cleaning of the sculpture is a great pastime among a project and the other ( mainly when we are talking about huge projects) it allows you to relax.
And it's highly recommended for those who want to train on the fabrics just because the perfect sculpture of the fabric folds and the softness of the quilted jacket!

For the painting I started with a black base on which I placed with the airbrush the first light using an ivory color.
After I laid the first base with the inks and using the web to gather information on this subject, I decided the colors based upon the painting tables I found during my image research.

The main bases (winsor and newton ink) are:
- ultramarine blue
- sepia
- carmine red
- green forest
all these inks are for fabrics, to which I added controlled yellow glazes to give the idea of the sunlight that lights up the subject in the sunset.

From this point, I added the shadows with Raw Umber (acrylic) and lights with white ivory (acrylic), and how shadows and end to the profiling I used the black ink diluted with water 50:50 and for the points of final light titanium white.

For the metal I started from a basic black ink (pellikan) and I added the Games Workshop Boltgun Metal and finally with the metallic ink Winsor and Newton as the final light

For the skin tone I used various glazes with inks carmine red and brown on a acrylic Tortora color base and Ivory white for the lights.

Walking Dead Bust

Hi everybody..
I just write two words on the painting of "Walking Dead bust, the "Zombie" by G.A.St.Art.
I'm sorry but I have no Wip pics 'cause I painted this model during the course I gave in Liguria last October to show the techniques I used at the participants.

1st STEP - I started stretching the acrylic base with airbrush ,as always a semi-gloss black base where I gave the first light using a mix of warm and cold tone to differentiate the various parts.
I have to say that this stage will be almost completely erased during the brush painting job but I really need to have a general idea of the work and the volume.
After for zenithal light, I used a neutral color (khaki to be precise) with a 20% of cold gray.

2nd STEP- After applying the acrylic base, I worked only on the area of the skin tone with oil colors using a mix of 5 colors: Mars Yellow, Prussian Blue, Van Dyke Brown, Cadmium Red and Titanium White.
Through marked nuances and variations of colors I tried to recreate a rotten flesh tone based yellow/ green with shades of red/ purple for the more festering areas.

3rd STEP - Once the oil layer was dried I went to resume the various areas of the shirt and skin tone with acrylic colours to create textures finishing and to increase the finals lights.

4th STEP – When the light and the shadows were finally fixed, it was time to “DIRT” model!
For this operation I used the inks of Winsor&Newton to simulate blood and to highlight the most shiny areas of the flesh.

At the end I added a bit of pigments to deteriorate the shirt and a few strands of glue to the organic flows!

I hope you enjoy the work because I had really a lot of fun to paint!

Thanks for your attention and as alway I recommend..PLAY WITH COLORS!!!

ABOUT US - Interview: New Member Sam

Hi Guys

In the last few days on Facebook, it were surfing a snapshot about the HysteriaYard new member..

Today we are so pleased to interview him, as always Amon prepare 5 simple questions, just to know his beard..

Present yourself: name, surname, age, nickname and the reason behind it.
Ciao , my name is Samuel Diociase.
I'm 32 years old and I don't have a real nickname, I'm signed on internet spots as SamD ( a simple diminutive of the name plus the first letter of my last name ), but at the end , everybody just call me Sam.

How long have you been painting? Why did you start?
My "history" as miniatures smearer began in 2000.
In this period some friends of mine were playing Warhammer, and at the end they pulled me into (If I have to say the truth I did much resistance).
It was like that I kept the brushes on my hands.
The adventure , however, was short-lived because an unhappy external causes, so I dropped everything only one year later.
The fate later ( after 12 years) wanted me to remember how much I enjoyed painting miniatures and so , in 2012 , I started shyly.
But only by January 2013 , supported by Francesco "Franciuus" Farabi I'm trying to work with a totally different but more sensible approach of the past. Before then I just wandered into complete darkness .
So to answer to your question, overall it would be three years.

Who's your favourite painter/sculptor? Who's your inspiration?
To avoid a list of dozens and dozens of painters and sculptors that I love, I just say only two:
- Franciuus for the painting.
AlanCarrasco for the sculpture.
- For the inspiration instead I turn to Fabrizio "Rusto" Russo, an exceptional artist, painter and sculptor who really dares and experiments without fear of failure .
Now if you want I can list you the others dozens of painters and sculptors that I love? No, it's better not..so pass to the next question..

Do you have a particular piece? What's your favourite?
No, I don't have particular pieces particular to refer, but there are really many pieces that in each there is something that inspires me : who for the complexion , who for freehand , who for the atmosphere and for the tones and so on.
About my favorite piece , backing by MSS 2013 I can surely say it's the Jack in the Plucker a character by Brom, made real by the couple Palacios - Rusto. Wonderful in all its aspects.

Can you show us some piece?
Einstein da Big Mek

Prosper The Avalonian Recruit

Festus The Leechlord

Heilmut Von Bauer

Pirate of Tortuga, 1660’s

Happy that now also Sam is joing the Team, we are waiting for his next work on this channel.
Here you can watch his gallery on Putty and Paint and here on CMON
Stay tuned!

Alice

Hello Guys!

I painted this model for the Hasslefree Miniatures Painting Contest 2013” on the Wamp forum

I painted with acrylics and for the first time I applied the primer with a brush to be sure not to create rough areas or little imperfections.
The model is really small so I put more care on the details and I decided not to create a scene to let more space to the figure.

I tried to work most on the white and on chromatic variations. I started applying a netrual gray which I worked on with some White Zinc by Maimeri. With many delicate layers I reached pure white on the dress and then adding cromatic variations with different glazes.

For the skin, being a female model, I applied soft contrast and I focused on the cleanliness and precision. Then I applied light red and green glazes to link them to the rest of colors used on the model.

Finally I put bloodspots with some ink and I painted the gun with various layers of boltgun metal and the final lights with the Silver Ink by Winsor & Newton.

And here you are the pic about the main colors used

I hope you like it also if it's little work.

DREAM AND NIGHTMARE

Hi Guys!!
Today I present one of my latest works:
DREAM AND NIGHTMARE

Before to start a big project I always try to got an idea to create an only one piece and in this case I chose to make a skit reversible.

THE IDEA:
The scene takes place on 2 sides and it is composed by the same elements, on one hand we see a child get out of a mirror landing on the "DREAMS" land, a lively and colorful room with toys of different types, while on the other hand, the scene is repeated but this time the protagonist is catapulted into the "Nightmare" where the same toys come to life and turn into monsters with sharp fangs, all in a cold tones and a creepy atmosphere.

THE SCENE:
I wanted this project unique in all its parts, and so I decided to sculpt everything by the beginning.

The first thing I made is the base for my scene using plywood to create the floor and the wall.
For the frame of the mirror and the skirting I used the balsa wood for ship models.
Finally I plastered with wall putty the imperfection and with the same putty I also made the floor tiles, spreading it evenly over the surface and then engraving it with a metal tip.

For the main character and the toys I used a mixture of 50%  Fimo soft and 50% Gray sculpey.
After cooking sculps in the oven I finished them adding the details in Magic sculpt.
Usually always use this method because I like to be able to refine the materials with metal spikes and sandpaper, for details I prefer the Magic sculpt because is more "sticky" and it attaches well to the surface.

I tried to keep a "playful" style and then I decided to sculpt a chubby child and work on him facial expressions.

Instead for toys I decided to sculpt the various elements of the larger scale than the child, just because the two scenes represent a dream world and children usually dream big toys, when I was a child I remained enchanted by the toy shop windows where they were often exposed oversized puppets and large games to attract attention!

After preparing all the elements I tried to arrange them in various ways to got an idea of the final scene.
It's important, in works as this one, got no gaps and balance well the scene through the arrangement of all subjects.

PAINTING:
For painting I gave as my usual an acrylic base with the airbrush, on the one hand I used a warm base and the on the other a cold base, so I increased the contrast between the two scenes.
On this basis I painted as always with acrylic colors, while maintaining the concept of warm/cold, I used on a side warm shadows and lighs (brown and beige) and on the other cold shadows and lights (blue and light blue).
For the glazing, the final washes and to add saturation to the scenes I used ink and then I realized the dirt on the darker side with pigments and acrylics.
