Pinocchio "To tell a story" ..homage to Carlo Collodi

Ciao Guys

After the Easter Break, I want to show u a work that Amon brought for the first time in the last Edition of MSS.
Let's read something about it directly by the mad author!

"My idea was:

Pinocchio is one of my absolute favorite fairy tales!

My question was:

How could I to be able to represent it in 3d, especially in a new way?"

This was a challenge that I set myself at the beginning of the new project.


I wanted to represent something classic in a way never seen before.
So I decided to create a route with stages inspired by the most famous board games like snakes and ladders.
Pinocchio begins his adventure in front of him was a path that led him to meet the various characters until the end of the story.

King Maulg

Ciao Guys!

When I took it in my hands the King Maulg by Figone, I decided to try the new SkinSet by Scale75 'cause I was curious to see how It was.

As always starting with the double primer, first in black and then white zenith, (both by GW) I continued with a airbrush coat base with mix of Basic Flesh Flesh + Pinky by Scale75 more than a hint of Navy Blue Andrea.

Given the base I added to the previous mix a bit of Light Skin by Scale75 to set the first light on the volumes of the model.

At the end of this process I made a very diluted wash of GW scab red all over the skin to highlight and contrast vaguely volumes.

The first shadows are created adding Indian Shadow by Scale75 to the Base tone.

The second shadow was made with a purple tone (GW scab red + navy blue Andrea) and a bit of tone base.

Then I gave a second light to the model adding even more Light Skin Scale75 to the first light compound.

So I spent a couple of glazes on all skins with the same purple (GW scab red + navy blue Andrea), who allow me to give some complementary contrast to the yellow tone that the skintone has in the meantime taken.

I go down even more by using a shadow Navy Blue Andrea. So I increase the light adding Pale Sand by Valleyo to the second light compound.

Usually I alternate light and shadow to move away gradually from the middle tone, but then a glaze with a base tone colour allows me to strengthen the medium tone, which in the meantime had a bit muffled.

As a final touch I increase again the lights adding Pale Sand Valleyo to the previous mixing until the result satisfies me.

For the base I used a branch and then painted, and the ivy is “Poison Ivy” by the Army Painter. 

And here you can find the finished model, I hope you like it.

In conclusion, I am very satisfied by the skintone set by Scale75, the finishing is really dull and working mainly with hazing and glazing, I find it wonderful.

The only drawback is the lack of few tones that I necessarily integrated with other color brands.

Overall definitely PROMOTED

Turcopole - Memorial Bust Monreale 2013

Hello Guys

This is the last piece that with a lot of pleasure I had in my hands.

I don't want repeat what my colleagues already wrote, but I can only say you have to got it in your hand, the signature of Mariano Numitone style is simply amazing!

The piece is really enjoyable to paint and despite the "simplicity" it leaves much space for hundred interpretations.

Talking about my version, I started doing a bit of research and in the end I opted to try a middle eastern skintone keeping it enough on warm and brown tones.

I did a bit of effort, being the first attempt on it, but I'm quite happy about the result.

For the cloak and turban I chose black colour, where I overdid the lights with grey to give the impression of sunburned fabric, and at the end I gave a slight haze of yellow ink to increase this effect.

For the "scarf " around the face, the choice fell on a cold color (turquoise ) to frame the face and at the same time to enhance the warm skintone. For the light I deliberately desaturated enough just because I just want it as neutral element of the bust, so favoring the face.

On the jacket I used as a mid tone a brown colour, lightened with ivory colour on the lights and darkened with black colour on shadows. At the end I gave some washing of Sepia and burnt sienna ink by pelikan to saturate it a bit.

She Felt..

"She didn't feel ..

..only wet sand under her feet

..only the cool morning breeze of in her hair

..only the warm tears on her face

..But..only empty words of a Farewell forever written."

Hello guys.

She felt, is a small project started last year in a chilling evening in my corner.

But, it passed too much time in the Wip showcase...graying, its pure youth soul.

Starting from Miranda by HasslefreeMiniatures, I just had to create slots in both hands, where to put the letter pages, made by thin sheets of aluminum taken by the little chocolate wrappers (eaten during my painting sessions).

The conversion was simple..but effective in my opinion.. 

I painted starting with a black primer base, to which I added the zenithal light in white color with the airbrush.

It was painted with acrylic colors. I used it as a study of zenithal light in a very bright ambience.

The waves have been made with the Still Water effect of water Vallejo and cotton balls.

The plinth is by 27Rosso

Turcopole Memorial Bust Monreale 2013

Ciao Guys!

Today I want to show you my latest work.

Turcopole Memorial Bust Monreale 2013

I managed to get this bust participating (unfortunately for me not to live) to the beautiful exhibition of Monreale 2013, for the occasion the club gifted this subject to all entrants.

Knowing that the bust was sculpted by the legendary Mariano Numitone I immediately took care to pick up my copy to paint it!

Before talking about the painting, I would like to mention the sculpture.

In the world of modeling, the small-scale busts are often underestimated busts because usually modeller prefers to paint an entire subject or a bust on a large scale to have more impact in exhibitions and competitions.

Actually a simple subject like this can go unnoticed while for the moments of I find it is very relaxing! It allows you in really few time to get it ready to paint without spend hours to create the ambience, put pins and plaster.

In essence this bust, thanks to the wonderful cleaning of the sculpture is a great pastime among a project and the other ( mainly when we are talking about huge projects) it allows you to relax.

And it's highly recommended for those who want to train on the fabrics just because the perfect sculpture of the fabric folds and the softness of the quilted jacket!

For the painting I started with a black base on which I placed with the airbrush the first light using an ivory color.

After I laid the first base with the inks and using the web to gather information on this subject, I decided the colors based upon the painting tables I found during my image research.

The main bases (winsor and newton ink) are:

- ultramarine blue

- sepia

- carmine red

- green forest 

all these inks are for fabrics, to which I added controlled yellow glazes to give the idea of the sunlight that lights up the subject in the sunset.

From this point, I added the shadows with Raw Umber (acrylic) and lights with white ivory (acrylic), and how shadows and end to the profiling I used the black ink diluted with water 50:50 and for the points of final light titanium white.

For the metal I started from a basic black ink (pellikan) and I added the Games Workshop Boltgun Metal and finally with the metallic ink Winsor and Newton as the final light

For the skin tone I used various glazes with inks carmine red and brown on a acrylic Tortora color base and Ivory white for the lights.
